Invisalign®
Auburn, MA

A woman smiling while putting in her Invisalign at D.A. Dental in Auburn, MAPatients seeking options for bite alignment or correcting malocclusions may consider Invisalign. These oral appliances shift your misaligned teeth gradually, moving them to the desired, targeted position. Our dentist at D.A. Dental will record molds or impressions of your teeth to make custom plastic aligner trays.

What Is the Difference Between Invisalign and Clear Aligners?

Clear braces work the same way as traditional metal braces. They utilize a system of archwires and brackets to shift teeth into the correct position. However, clear braces are made from an invisible translucent material or clear ceramic brackets, which complement the tooth’s color.

Invisalign differs from metal braces in that it utilizes a system of trays in place of brackets and archwires. The plastic trays are removable, but you keep them on for at least 22 hours. Invisalign is not only inconspicuous, you can take it off when engaging in sports or while eating. Our dental specialist will replace the trays every two weeks to ensure the teeth shift into the desired position.

How Long Does Invisalign Take to Work?

The treatment duration may vary depending on the patient and the condition of their teeth. But the process usually takes less than two years for teeth to move into the desired position. Results may be visible within six months of the Invisalign procedure.

The process may take longer for older patients compared to children or teens. Aging makes the gum tissue less responsive to Invisalign braces. The extent of your malocclusions will also determine the duration of the treatment.

Can Invisalign Fix an Overbite?

Invisalign can be effective for treating an overbite, but it also depends on the extent of the misalignment. Invisalign plastic trays may not provide adequate pressure to move teeth for patients with severe malocclusions.

Our dental specialist will conduct exams and take x-rays for a thorough diagnosis of your overbite. Data from the initial evaluation can determine if you are the right candidate for Invisalign. Traditional braces may be more suitable for severe cases.

How Long Do I Have to Wear Invisalign?

Every patient has a unique oral cavity profile, which means the treatment plan must be custom-made for their specific condition. Many orthodontic patients only need to wear Invisalign braces between six and 12 months. The duration is longer for adults than for teens or children.

Your daily habits may also determine the duration of your recovery after Invisalign treatment. Our orthodontic specialist will request you avoid removing the aligners for more than two hours daily.

If you do not wear the aligners for at least 22 hours per day, it may lengthen the treatment period. You also need to maintain your dental hygiene routine. Cleaning your aligners will prevent infections that may cause setbacks and delays. Use a soft-bristle brush to remove food debris from the plastic trays. Brush your teeth twice daily, and floss at least once to avoid gum inflammation.
